The NJSA would like to recognize Baxter Howell of Greentown, Indiana as the youth spotlight. He is the son of Brad and Tammy Howell. Baxter has a older bother named Zach and he is a triplet to Brice and Blake. Baxter is a freshman at Purdue University where he is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho. Baxter’s hobbies include showing livestock, going to the lake and enjoying time with his friends and family.
Baxter started showing pigs when he was 10 years old at the Howard County 4-H fair, Todd Harvey got him started then he just took showing to a whole new level. He has had 6th overall barrow at the Indiana State Fair and 5 county fair grand champions since. Baxter shows pigs because he has learned responsibility in feeding and taking care of them on a daily basis and loves meeting new friends. The meeting new friends and building relationships part is his favorite part of showing pigs.
Baxter has two favorite livestock shows and they are the Indiana State Fair and the NJSS, he has shown at the NJSS for the past 4 years and has loved every show because he feels like it is the one show the everybody shows up to and he has a blast! Baxters favorite event at the NJSA events is the showmanship because it is a individual competition. If Baxter could tell a youngster something about the NJSA it would be to join because there is not a better experience in livestock.
