Twelve year old Connor Bowlin of Jasper, Indiana is the son of Barry and Bonnie Bowlin. Connor is a sixth grader at Jasper Middle School and first showed pigs as a pre-4-H’er at age 5. The 2009 Summer Spectacular where his team was first in the junior judging contest and he won the poster contest is Connor’s favorite NJSA moment. When asked why he liked to show pigs Connor said, “I like to meet people from all over and make new friends as well as listen to the judge make comments about the animals and participants in showmanship.” When not showing pigs Connor also enjoys showing cattle, participating in livestock judging, helping around the farm, raising and selling sweet corn, and training dog obedience with their dog Ginger.
Outside of school and the farm Connor participates in wrestling and football as well as science fair. When asked what he would like to do in the future Connor said, “I would like to have a sow herd and raise my own show pigs and add to my Hereford cattle herd.” Connor is not totally sure what he would like to be when he grows up but he is sure that he wants to be a livestock judge and possibly work for a feed company.
Congratulations Connor on being this month’s NJSA Youth Spotlight!
