The NJSA would like to recognize Caitlyn Bowyer of Sumner, Illinois as a youth spotlight. Caitlyn is the 16 year old daughter of Mark and Lori Bowyer and has one sister, Cara, who is 13 years old. Caitlyn is a junior at Red Hill Jr./Sr. High where she actively participates in FFA, the science club, Spanish club, and is a member of the yearbook staff. Caitlyn is very active outside of school as well as she is an officer for her 4-H club, participates in livestock judging, and of course shows pigs.
Caitlyn showed her first barrow at the Seno State Fair when she was only 3years old! Caitlyn’s dad grew up showing livestock and decided it would be good to get her started early. Caitlyn really enjoys showing pigs as not only does she get to spend time with her wonderful family but she gets to see all of her friends that have the same passion for pigs as she does. Her favorite NJSA event is the MVP party because she loves to see all of the youth wanting to be active in the NJSA and her favorite NJSA contests are showmanship and judging. Throughout her 10 years as being a member of the NJSA, some of Caitlyn’s biggest accomplishments are being in the Top Ten in showmanship, judging, and skillathon numerous times.
In the future Caitlyn hopes to attend a junior college somewhere and participate on the livestock judging team and then move on to a university. After college she hopes to accepted into vet school and become a veterinarian.
We would like to congratulate Caitlyn on her past accomplishments and wish her the best of luck with her future happenings!
