The NJSA is pleased to recognize Cody Lamle, of Columbia City, Indiana as a Youth Spotlight. Cody is the son of Tim and Annette Lamle and has one younger brother Jared Lamle.
Cody is 20 years old and just finished his sophomore year of college at Lake Land Junior College in Mattoon IL. He plans on pursuing the rest of his education at Oklahoma State University or Western Illinois University this coming fall.
Cody has been showing pigs and cattle for 13 years and his favorite breeds are Yorks and Spots because he has had his most success with each.
Cody has been an NJSA member since 2004 and has exhibited at both The World Pork Expo and The National Junior Summer Spectacular. His favorite show is World Pork Expo because he can exhibit barrows he has previously jackpotted earlier in the year, the weather is typically great, and because he gets the chance to see the future changes and livestock that will affect the industry. He most enjoys the Livestock Judging contests offered at shows.
"You need to know the current trends of the hog industry, use basic fundamentals of sorting stock, and then being able to defend your reason for placing the class the way you did thru oral reasons, which helps in public speaking."
Cody has many memorable accomplishments such as being the 2nd high individual at National Barrow Show Judging Contest and then winning it as a team, raising the Champion Bred, Born, and Raised Gilt at their county fair along with her being Res. Bred and Owned at CPS. Cody has also had 2 back to back State Fair Champions.
Cody was also very active in FFA throughout high school and hopefully will be receiving his American Degree this year. He was also named an All American at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Livestock Judging while in highschool.
"Thru showing livestock, I have made lots of great memories and have met many more good people."
After graduation Cody plans to be a part of the Swine Industry, either in Nutrition or Production. He wishes to get married one day and be able to come back to the family farm and work with his grandfather, dad, uncles, and cousins. He would like to operate a show pig herd to give back to the youth as he was once given.
Cody's advice to others thinking about joining the NJSA, "This organization is great, get involved and you will make great friendships across the country like so many youth have already done including myself."
Clearly family is very important to Cody, "Without them I would not be where I am today and I thank them everyday for the opportunities I have been given."
Good luck in all of your endeavors Cody, you serve as an excellent asset to the swine industry!
