Drew Tucker

The NJSA would like to recognize Drew Tucker, 10, of Ocilla, Georgia as an NJSA youth spotlight.  The son of Harry and Christine Tucker, Drew is a fifth grader at Irwin County Elementary School.  Outside of school, he is involved in 4-H and enjoys playing Nintendo DS and collecting marbles and Hot Wheels cars.

Drew started showing pigs when he was two and a half years old.  When asked why he shows pigs, Drew answered, “I like learning about them and spending time with them.  Plus, it is something my dad and I enjoy doing together.”  His favorite part of showing pigs is going to the shows and seeing his friends.  Drew’s favorite shows are the National Junior Summer Spectacular and the Georgia National Fair.

Some of Drew’s accomplishments include being recognized for perfect attendance for the 2009-2010 school year, receiving the Sportsmanship Award from his baseball youth league, and winning Champion Duroc Barrow and Champion Yorkshire Gilt at the 2007 Southeast Regional.

Drew’s most memorable moment in the NJSA was when he won the novice judging contest at the 2008 National Junior Summer Spectacular.  He would like to tell younger NJSA members, “That being a member and going to the shows is a lot of fun.  You get to meet a lot of nice people and make a lot of friends.  I also would like to encourage them to sign up for the MVP program.”

In the future, Drew plans to attend the WPX and become a mentor and junior board director.  Someday he would like to run his family’s business and his own showpig business.  Currently, Drew is raising his showpigs, growing his garden, selling his produce, taking karate lessons, swimming, and enjoying his time off of school.

The NJSA would like to congratulate Drew on all of his achievements and wish him the best of luck with all of his future endeavors!
