Dylan Cain

The NJSA would like to recognize Dylan “Piglet” Cain, 8, of Chariton, Iowa as an NJSA youth spotlight.  The son of Lee and Jana Cain, Dylan has one older brother, Aaron, 12.  He is a third grader at Van Allen Elementary where he enjoys doing science, PE, and being with friends.  Outside of school, Dylan likes showing pigs and playing sports; especially football.

Dylan started showing pigs at the age of two.  When asked why he shows pigs, Dylan answered, “We raise pigs on our family farm.”  Showing well and winning prizes are what Dylan enjoys most about showing.  He also likes to watch others and learn new things.  His favorite shows are the World Pork Expo, National Barrow Show, and National Junior Summer Spectacular.

His favorite quote, “Always keep your eye on the judge,” has paid off, as Dylan has an extensive list of accomplishments.  Some of his accomplishments include exhibiting the 3rd Overall Hampshire Gilt at the 2008 World Pork Expo, 3rd Overall Hampshire Gilt at the 2009 World Pork Expo, Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog at the 2009 National Barrow Show, and placing 10th in the novice judging contest as the 2010 World Pork Expo, 2nd in novice Skillathon at the 2010 National Junior Summer Spectacular, and 6th in novice sweepstakes at the 2010 National Junior Summer Spectacular.

Dylan’s most memorable moment in the NJSA was exhibiting the Reserve Champion Market Hog at the 2009 National Barrow Show.  About the NJSA, Dylan would like to tell younger members that, “you get to meet new friends, judge with friends, and have lots of fun at all the shows.”

In the future, Dylan would like to attend Iowa State University and carry on the family tradition of working on the farm.  One day he hopes to be a dentist or a veterinarian.

The NJSA would like to congratulate Dylan on all of his accomplishments and wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors!
