Gavin Biery

The NJSA would like to recognize Gavin Biery, 7, of Rawson, Ohio as a youth spotlight.  The son of Darren and Jennica Biery, Gavin has one brother, Lincoln, 3.  He is a second grader at Cory-Rawson Elementary where he loves math and recess.  Outside of school, Gavin enjoys playing basketball, baseball, flag football, running, and, of course, showing hogs.

Gavin started showing pigs at the 2009 Ohio State Fair when he was six years old.  Gavin shows pigs because it’s fun and he likes the show ring.  He also likes to care for them at shows; brushing, spraying and petting them.  His favorite part about showing is farrowing and raising the pigs.

Some of Gavin’s accomplishments include exhibiting 1st and 3rd place gilts at the Ohio State Fair, which he is retaining for next year’s showstock.  Gavin also participated in three 5k races this year, including the Capital City 5k in Columbus, OH.  Being the youngest participant in all three events, Gavin ran his first race at the age of 6.

Gavin’s most memorable moment in the NJSA was when he got his first ribbon at the World Pork Expo.  About the NJSA, he would like to tell younger members that, “you get to meet new kids at every show.”

Gavin’s future plans are to raise more hogs and try raising some sheep or goats.  Someday he would like to become a veterinarian.

The NJSA would like to congratulate Gavin on all of his accomplishments and wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors!
