Hannah Frobose

NJSA would like to congratulate Hannah Frobose, 15, of Pemberville, Ohio.  Hannah is the daughter of Dan and Vicki Frobose and has three siblings, Hyatt, 24, Hallie, 21, Hunter, 13.  Hannah is a freshman at Eastwood High School where she is involved with FFA, and hopes to make her high school’s softball team in the coming Spring.  Outside of school, Hannah spends her time involved with 4-H projects along with turkey, deer, and pheasant hunting.

Hannah has been showing and around pigs her whole life, in fact she says, “I tried naming her Hyatt and Hallie’s pigs when I was younger.”  Her first show was as a peewee showman at their County Fair and she has since broadened her horizons, including joining the NJSA.  Her favorite show to participate in is the Ohio state fair due to having all her friends around the state in one place, as well as the competitiveness of the show.  Of the NJSA events, she has attended Leadership Conferences, National Junior Summer Spectacular, NAILE, American Royal, and the National Western.   Of those, NJSS has probably been her favorite because she has been going a long time and there are so many contests to take part in.  She has also been fairly successful at NJSS, being 2nd in the Skillathon, as well at 5th Individual in the Judging Contest.  Hannah has also had much success at her state fair, having Reserve Champion Yorkshire Barrow, she has won showmanship numerous times, has had 3rd place overall and multiple class winners.  Despite these numerous accomplishments, Hannah’s favorite thing about showing pigs is getting the opportunity to work with them and prepare them for the showmanship contest.  She enjoys perfecting her style and building a relationship with her showmanship pig.  With that in mind it’s no surprise that showmanship is her favorite contest.  However, she also enjoys the Skillathon because she feels she has a lot of knowledge about the swine industry and pigs from raising all of her own, and what has been passed down from her family.

Since being an NJSA member, Hannah’s most memorable experience has been the time she spent at the Leadership Conference in Minneapolis this past April 2011.  She learned a lot about NJSA, hogs, and about keeping non-industry people informed about the swine industry.  She also made many new friends and contacts.  Hannah would like other NJSA members to know that “[NJSA] is a great program, you always learn a lot, meet new, down to earth people.  Make sure you always stay involved and don’t miss out on all of the great opportunities.”

When asked about the NSR breeds, Hannah’s favorite stands as the Yorkshire for their docile, easy-going nature.  For the future, Hannah plans on going to college as well as campaigning for a Junior Board position.  She hopes to find a career that keeps her involved with agriculture, and ideally working on a commercial and showpig swine operation.

The NJSA would like to congratulate Hannah on being such an outstanding role model and NSJA member, and wish her the best of luck at all of her future endeavors and shows!
