Peyton Wininger

The NJSA would like to recognize Peyton Wininger of Waveland, Indiana as a youth spotlight.  Peyton attends Waveland Elementary where he will be entering the 5th grade in the fall.  In school, Peyton enjoys his art and gym classes, and outside of school he likes showing pigs, roller skating, and simply hanging out with his friends in the process.   This includes his sister Paige, whom he spends time showing and working hogs with, and his Mom and Grandparents who support them and assist in their show preparations.

Peyton has been showing for about 4 years now and has been in NJSA for just as long.  His choice of joining NJSA was all his own.  He says “my Mom and I attended a lot of pig shows and I decided I wanted to try NJSA.”  Thus far, he enjoys getting the opportunity to go around to different shows, especially the big ones, and getting to see how well his pigs do.

Peyton is fairly active on the NJSA shows circuit, showing at World Pork Expo, National Junior Summer Spectacular, Southeast Regional, and Southwest Regional.  His favorite though, is NJSS due to the people and the environment, along with having the opportunity to be in the final showmanship drive at NJSS as a junior as well as being ranked in the top 10 in the All Around Sweepstakes for 2010-2011.  His favorite contest at the shows he attends is the Skillathon, which tests participant’s knowledge of hogs and the swine industry.

When he grows up and graduates, Peyton wishes to be a farmer raising pigs.  When asked what he would like to tell younger NJSA members Payton says, “try hard and work with your pigs, but you can’t win every shows.” As a final message, Peyton would like to thank Mike Fagg for providing pigs for him to buy each year.

The NJSA would like to congratulate Peyton on being such an outstanding role model and NSJA member already, and wish him the best of luck at all of his future shows and endeavors!
