When describing 12-year-old Konni Kelso of Seguin , Texas , immediately the words “Texas Star” come to mind. Konni is the daughter of Kurt and Stepheny Kelso of Seguin and Kenny and Rhonda Dracoulis of Stockdale , Texas . Kelso has one brother, Karson Kelso, and a sister Kendra Dracoulis.

Konni was meant to raise and show livestock, especially pigs. Her great-grandfather, Edgar Schneider, started breeding hogs in 1945. The family tradition lives on as Konni, a seventh grader at Lifegate Christian School , started to show pigs when she was only 3 years old at the San Antonio Livestock Show. Her family farms 850 acres, and they have 75 sows, 150 cattle and 14 horses.

Konni has been very successful in the show ring. She had first place in the San Antonio Livestock Show, and has placed with barrows at the Star of Texas and Fort Worth shows. Along with this, Konni has done well in a variety of skillathons, including the Fort Worth skillathon and the San Antonio Livestock Show (which she has won two times).

Besides being involved in raising and showing livestock, Konni is historian of the New Berlin 4-H Club, is captain of the junior varsity volleyball team and is a representative for the school council.

The 2004 National Junior Summer Spectacular proved to be successful for Konni. She was fourth in the Junior skillathon contest, first in the speech contest and placed second in both the Junior landscape and humor photography contest.

“I enjoy the NJSA because it’s a great way to meet people, learn more about the swine industry and travel,” Konni says.

In the future, Konni would like to attend Texas A&M University and have a career within the livestock industry.  Konni is certainly a star in our eyes and has a bright future ahead of her. Good luck Konni!
