Alan is the son of Bill and Julie Dutlinger. He has one older brother, Eric. Alan is a sophomore at Purdue University . He is pursuing a degree in Animal Science. At Purdue, Alan is involved in Block and Bridle and as an Animal Science Ambassador. Alan is also serving as part of the Junior Board for the Indiana Junior Swine Circuit and as a 4-H leader. After graduation Alan plans to attend graduate or veterinary school.

Alan has been showing swine for the past 13 years. He enjoys breeding and raising his own show pigs. He likes that he can sell them to others and show them himself. A highlight for Alan with having a breeding program is being able to chose his own genetics. One of his favorite things that he has been able to do because of the swine industry is travel around the country and meet new people.  He has traveled to fun places like Washington D.C. , Denver and San Antonio

Alan’s favorite thing about NJSA shows is the Sweepstakes contest. He says he likes the idea that you have to be a well-rounded individual to win this event. Alan appreciates that it includes more than just one or two activities. Some of his goals are being elected to the NJSA Board this summer, owning a private practice swine clinic specializing in herd management, and having a small farm while continuing to raise showpigs.

Alan said, “I really enjoy the swine industry and production agriculture.”

I wish you the best of luck in the future Alan!
