Wade Hendricks is 13 years old and has a twin sister named Whitney. This seventh grader attends school at Frankton Jr. High School . Geography is Wade’s favorite subject.

At the age of 4, Wade began showing crossbred market hogs in the open barrow shows at the Indiana State Fair. His favorite breed of swine is Duroc. Wade’s favorite pig was an old Chester White sow which his family had named Snowflake.

Wade joined the NJSA to show purebred gilts at Louisville , Ky. , and to become involved in the purebred industry. Some of his favorite events to attend while at the National Junior Summer Spectacular are the judging contest and the skillathon.

This past summer Wade placed fourth individually in the Judging Contest in Louisville and his team placed second in the Junior Division. Along with his judging awards, Wade proudly took home the title of the Junior Sweepstakes Winner at the 2004 Eastern Regional in Harrisburg , Pa.

Along with exhibiting swine, Wade shows Boer goats at his county fair in Indiana with his 4-H club, The Grand Champions. The Hendricks are members of the Normanda Christian Church and Wade is the starting point guard for the junior high basketball team.

After completing high school, Wade’s ambitions are to attend Iowa State University to pursue a degree in Swine Genetics, because he enjoys reading and learning about the stress gene, new sires, and pedigrees.

“I think the NJSA is cool because you get to attend these really big shows, learn about the swine industry, how it is changing, and meet really cool people,” he says.
