Emily Gehret, 16, of Anna , Ohio , grew up on a swine operation. Since she could walk, she has been involved with her father and uncle’s hog farm. She first started showing pigs at the age of 6 in the local peewee showmanship at the county fair. After finding out how much fun it actually was to show the pigs, she started showing at many open shows throughout the state.

Gehret has been a National Junior Swine Association member for 3 years. In those three years she has competed at the Summer Spectacular and the N.A.I.L.E. Market Swine Show. She joined the NJSA for the opportunity to meet new people, travel, and gain more knowledge about all facets of the purebred industry. Gehret’s favorite activity at the NJSA events is the showmanship contests.

Over the course of Gehret’s life, she has been very successful in the showring. She has exhibited the Grand Champion Market Barrow at the Ohio State Fair, won the Showmanship Contest at the Ohio State Fair, resides as President of the FCCLA chapter, and has won the county fair numerous times. Besides these great accomplishments, Gehret loves to give back to the community. She does this by participating in groups like, 4-H, FFA, Church Youth Group, Future Teachers of America, and student council.

Gehret plans to attend a four-year college and obtain a masters degree in Occupational Therapy. She hopes to work at a Children’s Hospital or Early Intervention School because she enjoys working with children with disabilities and loves to better their lives. In addition to this she hopes to continue working with the NJSA and any other service which provides so many opportunities to so many young adults and children.  Good luck in all you do Emily!
