Chelsea Boyd is the 15-year-old daughter of Ray and Sheila Boyd of Heflin , Ala.   On her family farm, Boyd Farms, she proudly helps her parents raise Duroc, Hampshire, and Yorkshire swine. She is in her third year of showing pigs and her second year of NJSA membership. Chelsea is a tenth grade student at Cleburne County High School , where she is enrolled in honors classes with a business marketing technical endorsement. When she graduates from high school, she plans to attend Auburn University to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She also hopes that she will one day have her own swine operation.

Chelsea has attended the NJSA National Youth Leadership Conference, National Junior Summer Spectacular, and the NJSA Southeast Regional Show. Her favorite NJSA event is the leadership conference because she gets to meet lots of people. She loves participating in the Skillathon and gilt show. Her goal for 2007 is for her gilts to do well at the NJSS in Louisville , Ky.   In her home state of Alabama , Chelsea has been awarded: the Supreme Competitor Award for three years at the AL National Fair; Supreme Champion Boar for three years; Supreme Champion Gilt for 2 years; and the Reserve Champion Gilt in 2006. Chelsea also achieved the 4-H Swine Achievement Award after her excellence through an essay and an interview.

In addition to NJSA, Chelsea also raises and shows market and Hampshire lambs, is the president of her school's 4-H chapter, and is planning to travel to Europe this summer with the People to People Ambassador Program. Congratulations to Chelsea Boyd for catching the eye of NJSA members everywhere as the February Youth Spotlight!
