Brock Herren, 15, is an NJSA member from El Reno, Okla. Brock resides in El Reno with his parents Jody and Richard, brother Seth and sister Regan.

Brock, though a busy high school student, spends the majority of his time either raising and caring for his Yorkshire and crossbred sow herd or showing pigs. He got his start producing show hogs about three years ago when his father decided to purchase a Landrace gilt at the Summer Type Conference. Fast forward three years and the herd has grown to include 17 sows! He has also had quite some success in the show ring. He is a veteran in the Oklahoma Jackpot Circuit and recently raised the High Point Yorkshire Gilt.

Brock has been a NJSA member for the past five years and attended his first event at the Southwest Regional. Since joining the NJSA, he has attended several shows, including the World Pork Expo Junior National and National Junior Summer Spectacular. No stranger to the winner’s circle, Brock has been honored with Reserve Champion Yorkshire at the World Pork Expo and 1st place intermediate judging, 4th place intermediate showmanship and 3rd in the sweepstakes at NJSS. This young man says the thing he enjoys most about showing is winning and calls his 1st place finish in the 2007 NJSS intermediate judging contest his proudest moment.

While Brock can usually be found spending long hours on the farm farrowing litters, he also enjoys — as he says any Oklahoma boy does — hunting and fishing. After graduating from high school, he has plans to attend Conners State University before transferring to Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine.

Congratulations on all that you’ve accomplished, Brock! We look forward to seeing you in the show ring down the road!
