Cole Awe, 14, is the son of Randy and Jennifer Awe and older brother to Jessica, 13. Cole and his family own and operate a small show pig operation in Elkhart , Ill. , raising mainly Hampshires, Yorkshires and crossbreds.

Cole has been showing pigs for the past 6 years, 4 of them as an NJSA member. As a member, Cole attends both the World Pork Expo and National Junior Summer Spectacular. He has celebrated success at both the WPX and NJSS taking home 3rd and 8th in showmanship at NJSS and WPX, respectively, in 2005. In 2006, Cole was awarded top honors in the showmanship contest at the NJSS as well as 2nd in sweepstakes.

Cole is a freshman in high school, and keeps himself busy outside of the show ring by helping on the family farm and participating in basketball and FFA . Cole’s daily duties on the farm include cleaning pens and walking hogs. He also plans to participate on the livestock, crops, and weeds judging teams for his FFA chapter.

Cole has thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the NJSA. He says he has gained a newfound competitiveness and met many new friends from across the country. In the future, he plans to attend Black Hawk College and the University of Illinois before returning to the family swine operation.
