Patrick Arkfeld, an eighth-grader from Dunbar, Neb., has been involved in the swine industry since he was born. Naturally, he started showing and raising his own show pigs when he was able.
Patrick says he got his first taste of production agriculture when he was 10. He received a Duroc gilt for his birthday and bought a boar from Kay Christian of Woodward, Iowa. This was the start of his purebred Duroc operation.
He and his family own Arkfeld Show Pigs. Patrick owns the Durocs and is partners with the Hampshires and crossbreds. Patrick has had major success with his Duroc herd. This year, he raised the Grand Champion Duroc Boar at the 2007 Summer Type Conference.
Patrick is not only successful in seedstock production, but he also has earned many NJSA awards! He was named high individual in the judging contest at the 2007 World Pork Expo Junior National.
Patrick plans to stay involved in the swine industry and wants raise Duroc show pigs and seedstock that win. Best wishes to you, Patrick!
