Rachael Arkfeld, 17, from Dunbar, Nebraska is the daughter of Tim and Lu Arkfeld. She has an older sister, Emily, and one younger brother, Patrick, all who are involved in showing pigs. Rachael attends Lourdes Central Catholic High School where she is a junior.
She became involved with the swine industry from her parents who had always been raising pigs as long as she can remember! Her first show was in Madison County, Neb., when she was very young. Since then she has shown numerous pigs all over the country.
Her favorite NJSA show is the National Junior Summer Spectacular because of all the new people she gets to meet. Her favorite contest at the NJSS is the skillathon, as this tests her knowledge of the swine industry. However, at other shows she prides herself on showmanship.
She is involved in numerous other activities other than the NJSA such as 4-H, National Honor Society, FFA, band, flag team, track, choir, student council and speech team. Her future plans are to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and major in agricultural education.
