Wes Hayes is the 15-year-old son of Kathy and Patrick Hayes. The Elton, La., native is a freshman at Kinder High School. Wes has been showing pigs since he was 4 years old. Along with his parents and 6-year-old brother, Tyler, Wes attended his first NJSA event in 2005 at the National Junior Summer Spectacular in Louisville, Ky. Wes’ favorite NJSS contest is the judging contest, but he is also excited about this year’s speech contest.

His other interests include 4-H and FFA. He competes on his high school’s track and football teams, too. Unfortunately, Wes is also a proud LSU football fan, and he takes the time to give Ohio State supporters like myself and Jim McCoy plenty of grief about this year’s national championship game.

However, his lack of football judgment hasn’t hindered other aspects of his life. Wes exhibits at his county fair and has shown the grand or reserve champion market hog at the Louisiana State Fair three times. His future plans include attending auctioneering school, competing on a collegiate livestock judging team at an agricultural university and hopefully returning home to help his family with their diversified agribusiness and auction.
