If a discussion were to take place about some of the most successful NJSA members, without a doubt, Brian Down would be mentioned. Most NJSA members are still trying to obtain the title of sweepstakes winner. Brian was not only a sweepstakes winner once, but four different times. However, even with all this success, one of the things that he is most proud of while showing hogs is the responsibility and patience that he has acquired along the way.

Brian has about 30 Hampshire and    Yorkshire sows in his operation. His goal is to own and operate a successful swine operation someday because that is what he truly enjoys.

Currently, he is a junior in high school and hopes to attend a junior college to participate on their livestock judging team and then transfer on to a university. He plans to major in either genetics or nutrition.

One of Brian’s other interests is FFA. Last year he was selected as the section winner in his proficiency area of Swine Entrepreneurship. Brian’s hard work and determination has made him a role model to many younger members. Thank you, Brian, for your continued enthusiasm in the NJSA!
