2006 American Royal Junior Swine Show

Junior purebred swine enthusiasts gathered in Kansas City, Mo., to compete for top honors at the third-annual National Junior Swine Association (NJSA) Gilt Show, Pedigreed Market Hog Show and Skillathon at the American Royal. The American Royal showmanship contest and crossbred market hog show were also highlights of the week.

Market Hog Show
On Thursday morning, James Backman of Denair, Calif., evaluated 260 market hog entries in the American Royal Market Hog Show.
Justin Coyle of Sperry, Okla., exhibited the Grand Champion Market Hog Overall with his crossbred gilt that was first named champion crossbred. The Reserve Champion Market Hog Overall was exhibited by Macy Marek of Riverside, Iowa, with her gilt that was first named reserve champion crossbred.
Katie Wirt of Parker, S.D., drove a May 5 daughter of NBD3 Redman 51-1 to the title of Champion Duroc Market Hog. The Reserve Champion Duroc Market Hog was shown by Kari Hamill of Adair, Okla. Her market hog was an April 1 daughter of HD5 Maxed Out 5-1.
The Champion Hampshire Market Hog was exhibited by Rucker May of Ada, Okla., with his Mar. 15 daughter of MSG5 Smuckers 14-1. The Reserve Champion Hampshire was shown by Bailey Pope of Lathrop, Mo., with her Feb. 24 son of RCW4 Big Ticket 19-6.
The Champion Yorkshire Market Hog was exhibited by Morgan Parish of Covington, Ind. She’s an April 11 daughter of ARK4 High Cotton 47-4. The Reserve Champion Yorkshire Market Hog was shown by Megan Connor of El Paso, Texas. Her barrow was a May 15 son of ISGG4 S Ultra 28-16.
The champion AOB entry was exhibited by Brooke Parker of Locust Grove, Okla., with her Chester White entry. The reserve champion AOB entry was shown by Jessica Cates with her Chester White market hog.

His Mar. 2 daughter of ARK5 Symmetry 32-4 was first named champion Yorkshire. The Reserve Champion Gilt Overall was exhibited by Amara Danner of Chalmers, Ind.
