2009 NJSA FOUNDATION FEMALE

LFC8 Brenda 110-1

(LFC6 Alternative 72-5 x LFC6 Glacier 143-4)
Farrowed on Dec. 7, 2008
Bred by Lorenzen Farms, Chrisman, Ill.

The NJSA developed the Foundation Female program to support scholarship awards for NJSA members. Each year, the NJSA board of directors searches for an outstanding Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace or Yorkshire female from an established purebred herd to be offered for sale. In addition to offering a solid foundation piece from a proven herd, the NJSA showcases a family that supports youth projects and creates opportunities for the future of our purebred industry.

This year’s Yorkshire foundation gilt has been selected from the outstanding herd of Lorenzen Farms of Chrisman, Ill. Their track record of producing Yorkshire breeding hogs that have impacted the industry is, indeed, an impressive one. Many top-selling boars in recent years were either bred by the Lorenzens or were sired by boars carrying the LFC herdmark. Their gilts are always in high demand and have been used as foundation females in many herds from coast to coast.

This year’s Yorkshire foundation gilt is out of the same dam as the top-selling Yorkshire boar at the 2009 Winter Type Conference in Perry, Ga. She represents many of the top Lorenzen-bred hogs in her pedigree and will make an outstanding foundation female for any breeder who is serious about establishing a predictable herd of Yorkshire sows.

We would like to thank Tracy Lorenzen and his family for allowing us the opportunity to select any gilt from his spring crop, and for his commitment to helping NJSA members.
