Conference Highlights
Keynote speaker Kimberly Anderson of Athens, Ga., will motivate conference participants during her energetic and creative workshops. Anderson manages the University of Georgia’s LEAD21, an executive leadership program for land-grant college faculty around the nation. Her experiences as a past state FFA director, teacher and personal development trainer lend to her credibility and expertise in teaching youth how to achieve their personal, leadership and career goals. Anderson grew up on a cattle and grain farm in north central Iowa and is looking forward to working with NJSA members in May.

An exciting group of swine industry speakers and topics are slated for the conference, including: Glen Alan Phillips of the San Antonio Stock Show; Johnny Philipello of the Star of Texas; Joel Cowley of the Houston Stock Show; Randy Bowman with The Maschhoffs Inc.; Steve and Aaron Cobb of Lake City, Ark.; Jim and Mike McCoy of Bloomingburg, Ohio; Bryn Poliska of the National Pork Board and more!

Youth will also tour Real Hog Farm and the Cargill-Excel plant. Youth will be treated to a night out at the Plaza Wax Museum and Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, and a tour of the Riverwalk. As well, youth will participate in workshops organized and planned by the NJSA Board of Directors.

Traveling Tips

Driving to the conference
If you are driving to the conference, the hotel is the Holiday Inn-Riverwalk in San Antonio. Click here for complete travel details and a mapping guide to help you find your way to the hotel.

Flying to the conference
If you are flying to the conference, you will need to fly in to the San Antonio International Airport. We recommend that you find a flight that arrives to San Antonio on Friday, May 9, between 12:30-2:30 p.m. Registration will take place from 2-3:15 p.m. Because of the size of our group, we ask that you try to get there during this time period and not much before. Space is limited in the lobby area and there will not be NJSA supervision at this time. If you have a special exception or need, please contact Jennifer Shike at 765.463.3594 before you book your flight.

Once you get to the airport and go through the baggage claim area to pick up your luggage, walk outside the baggage claim doors and you will see booths set up for the San Antonio Trans. If you have trouble finding it, please ask an airport employee and they can direct you. The San Antonio Trans is the most affordable and safest way to travel from the airport to the conference hotel - the Holiday Inn-Riverwalk. Tickets are $25 for a round-trip pass or $15 for a one-way pass. We recommend purchasing the round-trip pass to save money. Once you get your ticket, they will usher you to one of the Trans shuttles and get you on your way to the hotel. Please note there may be some wait time until they fill the shuttle and there will most likely be other stops the shuttle will make along the way. Once you fly in to the airport, it could be another hour before you actually get to the hotel. Be prepared for this delay - but if you can work it out so your flight gets in between 12:30-2:30, you should still be fine to get to the hotel on time.
