Memorial Scholarship

One $1,000 will be awarded to one spring 2017 college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in an agricultural field OR current graduate school student. Applicants must be pursuing an advanced degree in swine genetics, swine reproduction or swine nutrition. The winner will be awarded a scholarship on the basis of swine industry experience and honors, NJSA experience and honors, collegiate activities, academics and future goals. Students may only win this scholarship one time.

Applicant Guidelines

  • Scholarship applicants must be a spring 2017 college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in an agricultural field OR a current graduate student.
  • Applicant must be pursuing an advanced degree in swine genetics, swine reproduction or swine nutrition.
  • Applicant must enclose one letter of recommendation from a college advisor who can verify participant’s graduate school acceptance or enrollment, in addition to their college activities and involvement.
  • Applicant must submit graduate school acceptance letter or proof of graduate school enrollment. Applications will be scored by a committee comprised of one NSR Youth Advisory Board member, one member of the Johnson family and one educational professional.

Each selection committee member shall independently review and score each application received and select the recipient(s) based on the following criteria:

  • Academics
  • Goals for future and collegiate involvement
  • Swine industry experience and honors
  • NJSA experience and honors

Applications will be scored by a committee selected by the NSR Director of Development. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the National Junior Summer Spectacular. Results will also be posted on the NSR website, www.nationalswine.com, and in the August Seedstock EDGE issue.
